If you have an easier time remembering the Wifi password than your kid’s middle name (Bobby? Beauregard? Something like that…) you may need to unplug for a few and head out with those little ones-whatever their names are. Santa Anita Race Track Family Fun Zone Arcadia I am guessing a fair amount of you have never thought of taking your kids to the horse races, but surprisingly, it can be a total blast for families! Santa Anita Race Track has a Family Fun zone from noon – 4 on Saturday, Feb 7th and it features all sorts of fun events for families like bounce houses and carnival games, plus a safe area to play and enjoy the races. Click here for the details. Parents, you can also have fun betting on the races and attempting to win enough to pay for your child’s college education (yeah, good luck with that). CHS Calabasas Cheer Showcase Calabasas Gimme a C! Gimme an A! Gimme… a little bit of a break here, making up a cheer for a cheerleading event is so hard to resist. This Saturday, February 7th, at 7pm take the family to the Calabasas High School Performing Arts and Education Center for the Calabasas Cheer Showcase. It will feature routines by the Calabasas Cheerleaders, plus special performances by CHS Dance II, Unstrumental, the Brian Drake Company, and more. You can visit www.thepaecs.org for details or email Coach Rachel Kay at [email protected]. It should be G-R_E_A_T! There! I did it! Hey, Is That Jupiter? Newbury Park Whether or not you think Channing Tatum looks like a mutant Rick Astley in the movie “Jupiter Ascending”, Jupiter is having it’s star turn this weekend as it reaches it’s closest point to earth. Join up at the Satwiwa Cultural Center in Newbury Park this Friday, February 6th, from 6:30 to 8pm to check out the large planet with others who can point you in the right direction. It’s outdoors, so bring a flashlight, chairs, and dress warmly. P.S. If you got the Rick Astley reference, you’re old. Sorry to break it to you. Reading to the Dogs Calabasas We all know that your dogs can’t read to you, but you can read to them-and your kids can as well at the Calabasas Library’s program “Reading to the Dogs”. This Saturday February 7th, and the First Saturday of every Month, your child can read to therapy dogs through the Paws For Healing program between 11:30 and 1:30pm. Sign ups for a 15 minute session begin at the Calabasas Library at 11 am, and you can call 818.225.7617 extension 2 for info. It’s silly, of course, do think that dogs could read to YOU. They can, however, sing to you. And possibly even read your thoughts… I Heart Old Navy Valentine’s Day Festivities Santa Monica Do you “heart” Old Navy? If anything, for their ability to make you feel a size smaller with that spectacular vanity sizing? Well the Old Navy in the 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica, in conjunction with Red Tricycle, is giving you another reason to love them; a Valentine’s Day celebration for your kids. On Saturday, February 7th from 1-3 pm, you can enjoy crafts, games, activities, and, of course, the chance for you to do a little shopping with up to a 50% discount on kids and baby clothes! I’ll be there, trying on Size 2s and smiling my fool head off.
