Just when you thought you got on top of your schedule, the world goes and TAKES AN HOUR AWAY! Yep, it’s Daylight Savings on Sunday the 8th and your clocks go forward. So, you may want to make the most of the weekend you have left. Here my top 5 picks for cheap and local family activities this weekend: Let’s Go Fly a Kite Family Picnic Thousand Oaks Do you like your house spit spot? Need a spoonful of sugar to get the medicine down? Can’t resist a good kite? If so, you and your kids will love this event: The “Let’s go Fly a Kite” community event with the Cabrillo Music Theatre! It’s taking place Sunday, March 8th from 1:00pm to 4:00pm at Carpenter Park directly outside of the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza. Mary Poppins will be there as well, to pose for pictures, greet guests, and introduce a sneak preview of Cabrillo Music Theatre’s all-new production of MARY POPPINS! Admission is free and you can get the details here. Mary will also lead a community sing along, or wait, maybe LADY GAGA will do her take on that Julie Andrews classic as well! A gal can dream… Tales on the Topanga Trails Topanga Canyon Need a simple and close by outdoor activity this weekend? Take the whole family to Tales on the Topanga Trails Sunday, March 8th from 10:00am to 12:00. Taking place at the Topanga State Park, the easy one mile hike will have songs, activities, and surprises. Meet at the Trippet Ranch parking lot and have fun! Woofstock 90210 Beverly Hills Kids and Dogs and Free Fun? All things that go together very well. This weekend you can head to Beverly Hills for Woofstock and combine all three! It’s Sunday, March 8th, from 11am-3pm at Roxbury Park (471 S Roxbury Drive) and you can get all the details here http://www.beverlyhills.org/exploring/woofstock90210/. The event features pet adoptions, vendors, food trucks, a pet parade, live entertainment, and pet and people face painting. You can even park for free and catch a shuttle at Beverly Hills High School. Be warned, however, like the original Woodstock, there will be some potential dog nudity… Annual Spring Art & Crafts Festival Newbury Park If you live out in the Conejo Valley area, you should definitely check out the Spring Arts and Crafts Festival at the Borchard Community Center. It’s on Saturday, March 7th and Sunday March 8th from 10am-4pm and is free to the public. The festival features original art and handmade items, plus food and hands-on children’s activities. Call (805) 381-2791 for info. It’s a fun way to spend a day together with your family, plus you can buy gifts for all the upcoming spring birthdays! Creek Clean-Up Calabasas Water is a little scarce these days, so make sure you do what you can to keep it looking pretty when it flows through our creeks and streams. Here’s a great way to have fun and help the environment, the City of Calabasas Creek Clean-up Event! It’s taking place Saturday, March 7th from 9:00am to 11:00am at the A. E. Wright Foot Bridge.
