St. Patrick's Day is SOO FUN! Except when it's on a Tuesday... then it blows. So take advantage of the pre-party weekend and do some family adventuring. Here are my top 5 picks for family fun with kids this weekend: St. Patrick’s Day Celebration Agoura Hills Are ya ready for a little luck of the Irish? Well, you can give it your best shot during the St. Patty’s Day celebration at the Agoura Hills Calabasas Community Center. It’s on Saturday, March 14th from 11 am to 3pm at the AHCCC and the party is going to be incredible: face Painting, rock climbing, inflatable rides, photo shoots, and use of the center all day. You don’t even need to find a pot of gold to pay for it, because it’s free! Visit their website for details. It’s going to be a lucky day, I can feel it. Some even say lucky and charmed… Free Opera Northridge Want your kids exposed to music a little bit more complicated than “Shake it Off”? You have a fun and free opportunity with the LA Opera this weekend, who will present two free "Great Opera Choruses" concerts at 2pm and 3:30pm on March 14th. These family friendly concerts are being held at the Valley Performing Arts Center in Northridge and you can get details at 818.677.3000 or LAOpera.org. You can even sing along to pieces from The Marriage of Figaro and Carmen. Don’t know the words? Just sing “peas and carrots” and you’ll be fine. Civil War Living History Day San Marino The Huntington Gardens is a great place to visit, but when you get some “re-enactors” involved, you can’t KEEP me away! Saturday March 14th from 11am-4pm you and the kids can step back in time to the Civil War era as the New Buffalo Soldiers bring history alive with a realistic encampment on the Huntington grounds and demonstrations of camp life. There’s also a band, a film screeningn, and children’s crafts. The whole event is covered by your general admission so make sure you check their website for info. So much better than being at the Civil War when it actually happened. Walt Disney’s Barn Public Day Griffith Park Want Disney fun without the Disneyland part? What if it involved trains, too? Perfection, right? Every third Sunday Walt Disney’s Carolwood Barn at the LA Live Steamers area of Griffith Park is open and free. That means this Sunday, March 15th, from 11am to 3pm you can visit this cool feature and explore all the trains your kids can handle. Visit their website for details. Be warned, you may tire out before your kids do. (Wait, isn't that every day?) Airport Artwalk Santa Monica Using an airport for boarding airplanes is so boring. Spice up your airport experience by heading to the Airport Artwalk! It’s Saturday, March 14th, from noon to 5 pm at the Santa Monica Airport, and you can explore open studios, watch art and ceramic demonstrations, participate in art and theater workshops, and enjoy live music and food trucks in the airport’s converted airplane hangars. It’s free, parking is free, and there is a bike valet! It's the cheapest experience at an airport you will have all year!
